Skills and Training
With the new Transport Infrastructure Skills Strategy published by the DfT in January 2016 and the ambitious apprenticeships target for 2020, the diversity and inclusion agenda, challenges of new technologies and upskilling the existing workforce, skills and training are very much a key focus for the industry.
The highways maintenance industry also faces the challenge of improving people's perception of what it has to offer and the variety of career opportunities that are available.
HTMA has set up three initiatives which are focussed on ensuring the long term growth and sustainability of HTMA through identifying, developing and supporting the talent that is available within our member organisations.
HTMA Talent Management Initiatives
Developing Professional AwardOne of the three initiatives is an annual Developing Professional Award.
Applicants from Member Companies are invited to put forward project ideas, using a template provided, for the chance to lead the project and get involved with the HTMA network. The work will be recognised for CPD and £500 will be given to the successful applicant.

The second initiative is a six-month Project Manager role which is designed to assist the Secretariat with some technical support, internal communications support and possibly representing HTMA with school visits or exhibitions/trade shows.

Research SponsorshipThe third initiative is a joint sponsorship with The Rees Jeffreys Road Fund and is due to start in September 2016.
This sponsorship will support two MSc research projects. The focus of the research will be aligned to the HTMA objectives.
